Use these tips to get your organising off to a flying start!
Keep your car clean inside and out - you will automatically feel better every time you get into it - having a dirty and untidy car can get you down
Always keep a bag for any rubbish you get i.e. drinks bottles, food wrappers, car park tickets etc... - its easier to get rid of after each journey / each week
Keep only what you really need in the car, and keep it where you need it. Its not good keeping a car park pass in the boot if you need to get out of the car everytime you need it - its better kept in your glove box.
Glove box - Car park passes / Sunglasses for driving / Maps / Sat Nav / Vehicle Paperwork / Charger for Phone / Hands Free items / CDs
Boot - First Aid Kit / Change of clothes / Umbrella / Blanket / Bottles of water and snacks in case of breakdown / oil / wash for windowscreen / spare tyre / jack / snow scraper / torch / raincoat / possibly a small spade if theres lots of snow about / shopping bags
In the Car - Possibly in the back of the driver/passenger seat or a partable box on the back seat - Tissues / Pen and Paper / Things for children to do when stuck in traffic
Even with all these things, you should be aware not to overload your car with items, as it will cause more wear and tear to the car, and be more expensive to run as you will use more petrol (the lighter the car is, the better and most cost effective it is)
Keep you car well maintained, the service book up to date, check that all lights work regularly, check tyre pressure etc... - if you leave until the last minute to sort out things then you may well find you are without a car for a few days.
Keep spare change in your car ready for tolls, car parks etc..
Ensure you have a phone charger in your car for if you break down (and have a break down kit in your car - know the number of the company you are member of (AA, RAC etc...) to call, water, snacks, blanket etc...)
Keep all items out of sight - prevent thieves from seeing something they want and giving them an excuse to break in
When making journeys (especially alone) always ensure someone knows roughly the route you are taking, where you are going and when you are due back
Some garages offer service packs for MOTs and Servicing - making the payments by direct debit over the whole year - saving you having to budget for a larger bill once a year - organising your finances
