Tips to Get your Family Time organised today!
Use these tips to get your organising off to a flying start!

  • Prioritise your family time - mark out a time in your diary so that you don't make any other arrangements. If all family members keep this time free then you will be able to do something as a family.
  • Set specific times in the day / week for homework, TV, Playing, Hobbies etc... - Children work best with routines.

  • Plan ahead - ensure that you use family time well - try and get everyone involved and excited about what you are going to do - obviously this depends on the age of your children - if everyone has different tastes in what they want to do then either pick something everyone will find new, or take it in turns to choose what to do.

  •  Try and spend time with everyone, including your parner, your children individually and the family as a whole - get to know everyone in your family and you will improve your relationships, communication and happiness.
  • What about a dedicated family evening each week or month? - games, a film, a meal out, in fact anything - as long as you are all there and enjoying yourselves!

  • Give all the children in your family an equal weighting of your time.
  • Give your undivided attention to whoever you are with - children will appreciate this more than spending money on them.
  • Ensure your children are aware of whats going on each week - have a family calendar on show somewhere where it will be seen (in the kitchen where everyone has breakfast is a good idea). If they are aware of busy days etc... they will be able to see why you have to say NO sometimes to things they want to do.
  • If you are short of time - try and involve family members in what you are doing - a great way to do this is to make tea together.

  • Make memories - start some traditions in your home - this is especially good for little children at times such as easter, christmas and birthdays.
  • Get the family involved in the household jobs - this will teach some responsibility, and also free up more spare time for all of you to enjoy!

  • Organise your childrens hobbies and friends time - ensure that you are not running around permanently dropping them off and picking them up at places. Setting a limit to the hobbies they can do would help to make them more focussed on what they enjoy, and give a little more time for family time and also time with friends.
