Use these tips to get your organising off to a flying start!
Add in garden jobs to your household schedule - mowing the lawn, weeding, cutting hedges, planting etc... all need your time equally as much as things inside the house
Children love to be outside - so make the most of garden chores by getting them to help. Getting mucky will make it more fun!
If you can, set up systems within your garden - such as composting, recycling etc... - these will make running your home easier and more fulfilling. most councils offer bins for recycling.
To make your garden work for you, decide what you want to use it for. If you tend to have it for your children to play, then lay it mainly to lawn. If you like relaxing in it, have a seating area. If you don't like to do lots of work in the garden, then try an oriental feel with pebbles rather than lawn as this is low maintenance. It is lovely to have a garden full of flowers and plants, but be realistic, if you don't have the time to keep it well, then don't have them. This will help you be more organised as you will free up your time for other things.
Organise your garden shed - don't let it just get full of bric a brac. Have shelving, hooks and boxes for items, keep like with like and have a place for everything. Label the areas if required so that its easy to find out what is missing or where something goes.
Look after your tools - keep them clean and tidy (service your lawn mower regularly) as that way they wil last longer, save you time when you come to use them, and cost less.
If you are struggling for space in your house, and can't afford to move or extend (or simply don't want the hassle) then consider adding a room in your garden. Home offices, relaxing summer houses - whatever you need it for can be done for a lot less than you think. It may well be the best solution for you
Ensure seasonal jobs are in your planner - this will stop you from missing them, and keep the garden looking as good as possible throughout the year
When choosing plants and flowers, ensure you know what your soil type is, how much sun that place gets etc... so that you buy the right plant for that area - otherwise you will end up spending more when you have to replace it - both in time and money.
If you love flowers - but don't want to have to replant year after year, try planting perennials as these will flower each year with little work from you. Or try and flowering tree or plant instead.
In the summer the grass grows quickly - so ensure that you have more time for mowing during these weeks - as it will be quicker and easier to mow the lawn twice a week than once a week with longer grass.
Ensure all toys and bikes etc.. are tidied away at the end of each day - in the driveway ensure that they are never left out as they could cause an accident
Store garden furniture inside if possible during the winter as they will last longer - at worst, cover with a waterproof cover.
