Use these tips to get your organising off to a flying start!
Stay on top of special dates by using the last week of every month to organise cards and presents for the following month (and add reminders to send them out 2 days before the date in your diary) - never miss a birthday again!
Get a monthly meal planner sorted for your family - See the FREEBIES section for more details - Having a plan of what to eat every day will help you to organise your shopping trips and save loads of time. Have variety and scope for change within it - The example below can help as a rough guide for all weeks, and you can add in the details for each meal that suits your family (i.e. fish night - week one of the month = fish cakes, week two = baked cod and veg, week three = cajun salmon, week four = fish pie) This way you will get a wide variety of food and won't get bored of the same dishes if you only see them once a month:-
MONDAY - Fish meal
TUESDAY - Meat meal
WEDNESDAY - Vegetarian Meal
THURSDAY - Pasta Meal
FRIDAY - Takeout night
SATURDAY - Free choice (space to try a new recipe, or you may go out as family etc....)
SUNDAY - Roast Meal
Try and do a large shop monthly to get all products with a long shelf life, and then you will only be left with fresh produce to have to shop for more often.
When cleaning your home, divide jobs
into daily, weekly, monthly etc..... For the monthly jobs, as with the
meal planning, try and divide them out equally throughout the month
(i.e. week one - clean car, week two - clean windows, week three - clean
out all kitchen cupboards, week four - gardening) - these are just as a
guide, but don't leave all your monthly jobs to the last weekend of the
month otherwise you will have no family time, yourself time or anything
else other than chores - and who wants that!
There will always be specific jobs to do on specific months (December - decorate the house for Christmas, March - Spring clean the house, August - Get ready for new school year etc.....) - so ensure that you plan these events well and don't leave until the last minute.
Stop the need to have to send bill payments monthly - adding to your admin, time and energy - Sort them out so you pay by direct debit (theres often a discount for doing so also). Get into the habit of looking at the household accounts each month to ensure that all seems OK.
If weekends are your only family time, then get into the habit of not overfilling them each month. Try and balance out the number of visits to friends and family, the number of free weekends, and the number that are filled with special occasions. If you spend every weekend visiting people for 6 weeks, then you will have lots of other items backing up at home which will stress you out more. If you alternate so you have some weekends at home as well, you can stay on top of things.
